Chapter 17 - Not So Forbidden Power

Quick Summary
The BADASS S army has taken Banisha, driven the dark knights before them, and now hears the ceaseless lamentations of Kachua. Actually, she's not bad now that she's grown up a bit. After a rousing speech, she vows to fight alongside her people to retake Valeria, to the dismay of pretty much everyone. Not that it matters, but she's going. Before we march to the penultimate encounter at Heigm, Denim decides to take a slight detour that definitely doesn't get in the way of a war or anything. At Coritani, he asks Moruba about something called: THE FORBIDDEN POWER. Without much of a fight, Moruba relents and allows Denim access to this power, but must turn his daughters into mediums for the elemental gods. Good thing we recruited all of them.

The Army
The Forbidden Power side-quest is done in order to get powerful Forbidden Magic. There are 4 forts we must go to and battle at in order to access the shrines, which house monster guardians and the powers. Each is a spell of the corresponding element. The magic affects the entire battlefield and is very powerful, the downside is that it will hit our guys too, so I don't plan on using it that much. The REAL reason to do this quest is to get the elemental shields that drop at the end of each fort battle.

Everyone is level 30 now and swimming in special gear.

Unit Spotlight - Princess
The princess is almost the best class in the game, save for Death Templar and Lord. It would be better than Lord if not for its weak physical defensive attributes. The Princess can equip any spell in the game, including Revivify. Speaking of Revivify, we'll be using Kachua as a battle rez unit while venturing into Hell Gate. It's necessary because we need someone who can revive people and someone who can cast a spell to exorcise undead, which hell gate is filled with. Don't worry, I won't be using her in important battles, but hell gate is so tedious I don't need unit death and save scumming added to the equation. Anyway, the Princess is a class only Kachua can use and only if you allow her to live in Chapter 4. This comes at the expense of Denim's Lord class, but you're trading battle stats for magic utility and the optimal best ending of the game. She's no melee beast, but being able to cast charge on herself and revivify or whatever is extremely useful.

Jon - Berserker - Water
Kills: 16
Achievements: Boss Blocks, Axe Assassin

It's looking like you're going to be the last person to get a special weapon. It'll probably be at some point in hell gate. Until then, your wing ring will continue getting you into trouble and make me reload saves, because I decided it was a good idea to run you ahead of everyone. As much of an advantage it gives me in places like William City, it usually has a huge drawback.

Gage - Knight - Fire
Kills: 23
Achievements: Close Call, Damsel In Distress, Stone of Shame, Face Blocker

When the enemy likes to fling spells around, you're great. I've realized this, but that shit is usually accompanied by arrows and sharp things. Your service as our spell tank will end when I get the fire shield from wherever it is.

Brian - Lizard Man - Water
Kills: 29
Achievements: Murder Hobo, Stone of Shame

There's a water shield with your name on it at some point in the next playthrough chapter. Astonishingly, you still do great damage if I actually manage to get you into combat.

Rob - Golem - Wind
Kills: 4
Achievements: Wall of Heal

Still healing, still tanking whenever you can. Your DEX score is finally in the triple digits! That's partially because of a DEX card you got in the Air Temple. Now to get several dozen more...

Velika - Witch - Earth
Kills: 8
Achievements: Dragon Charmer, Stone Cold, Close Call

You're still a stone cold stoner. Your charm is still useful, but Petrify is permanent. I may replace HealRain with something else since Denim does the bulk of healing for us now.

Sagar - Berserker - Fire
Kills: 18
Achievements: Cock Block, Last Stand

I wonder what that axe feels like...

Josh - Dragoon - Earth
Kills: 19
Achievements: Early Riser, One Hit Wonder, Full Set

An earth shield is in your future. Soon, probably. The real question is how to solve your slowness problem. Your WT score is almost as high as Jorshe and Jay, I can't cast paradigm on you ALL the time.

Jay - Tiamat - Wind
Kills: 42
Achievements: Charming, Quite Charming, Late Bloomer

Although you are a beast, it saddens me when I only see that Charm icon appear whenever you kill someone with Toxic.

Logan - Warlock - Fire
Kills: 4
Achievements: Here Comes The Stun

Forget Stun, you may as well be called a Duracell instead. However, I think you can equip forbidden magic, so  you might get the fire version soon.

Peter - Earth - Terror Knight
Kills: 47
Achievements: Boss Blocks

We finally got you that Earth Axe you've been wanting for christmas! When you were only doing mediocre damage in combat, now you annihilate shit. I did 160 HP on someone and that was a killing blow, who knows how hard you would have hit them normally.

Jeff
Kills: 35
Achievements: Bitchin, Gnome Sayin
I forgot to say something in the email I sent out, but I don't really have any news for you, except that you continue smashing dickwads into the ground with your summon spell. It's entirely possible that you can equip forbidden magic, so I will do that if you can.

Dylan - Terror Knight - Wind
Kills: 38
Achievements: Stone of Shame, Survivor

I'll be the last to get an elemental weapon probably.

Battles

Battle 1 - Yomlahaba
https://youtu.be/wFOEENYGyJE
The only factor which made this battle difficult was the map. As you can see in the video, most of the map is water with some islands sprinkled in it. We're basically fighting alongside a cliff face and the only people who will excel at this battle are people who can walk through water, on it, fly, or teleport. In previous attempts I only had 2 people who could travel in water and long range spells. This time I pushed the leader into a bad spot and killed him quickly with a Gnome to the face.

Battle 2 - William City
https://youtu.be/djnw8_K7bvk
Boy howdy, a bunch of knights who can fly in a map that's mostly a vertical climb. The first attempts I made the rookie mistake of sending my fliers and teleporters in ahead of everyone, allowing the enemy to pick them off. On the successful run, I tried to kill all the knights, but the Swordmaster was just asking for it with his suicidal maneuvers. However, the knight that did die did not drop his wing shoes. Damn it!

Battle 3 - Fort Damsa
https://youtu.be/tLTprR-h8t8
Another crazy swordmaster ready to die by our hands. The only thing I was interested in was his shield.

Battle 4 - Air Temple
https://youtu.be/Ce5kV3i8e04
If you noticed, there's a slight change in music and level appearance. Keep this in mind when I'm going through hell gate. In this battle we face all L-size monsters and even a monster class we can't recruit. It's not difficult though, because everything is so slow and susceptible to petrify that we can slowly work all of them down. This battle was a piece of cake and we got some forbidden power for it.

The Story So Far

Denim has defeated the Dark Knights at Banisha and saved his sister from certain whatever they had in mind for her. Kachua took her place as the real leader of the war effort and vows to fight alongside her countrymen, to Denim and Moruba's dismay. She promises she won't do anything stupid though. We'll see. So Denim strikes out to Heigm, where the Cardinal is stationed. On his way he makes a u-turn and goes to Moruba to find out how to obtain the mysterious FORBIDDEN POWER!!!! Moruba expresses that it is too powerful and the last man who wielded such power did so at the cost of most of his army. Denim promises not to abuse it, so the priest tells him what needs to be done. Four mediums, one for each elemental god, must be present at their respective shrines, they must be elementally aligned and be descendants of a high priests. Incidentally, Moruba - a high priest - has four daughters, each aligned with a different element. WOW! He turns them into Shaman and sends Denim to four Forts containing hidden shrines. Denim seeks the power and goes to Fort Damsa for starters.
